AT324 - Great Britain 2012 £5 Diamond Jubilee Silver Proof
| |
A must-have for those who appreciate the finest in collector coinage, Britain's official 2012 £5 Diamond Jubilee Silver Proof forms a compelling tribute to the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne.
A precious metal indulgence that everyone can enjoy, this new £5 Crown from the Royal Mint is one of few 'double-portrait' British coins. Created by Ian Rank-Broadley, the obverse features a stunning mature portrait of the Queen, based on the designer's celebrated sculpture found at the Supreme Court in London's Parliament Square. The reverse carries an inspired version of the original Mary Gillick portrait of the Queen, adorned with foliage in reference to the Diamond Jubilee medals of Queen Victoria. Measuring 38.61mm, the crown-sized flan allows full appreciation of these unique designs – stunning in Proof quality sterling silver.
Whilst the mintage has been set at a seemingly generous 75,000 coins, this is indicative of the anticipated interest in this important commemorative release. Indeed, the Mint believes that the 2012 £5 Diamond Jubilee Silver Proof will be among the most sought after coins in British history, and given the phenomenal success of other recent Royal Family issues, such as the 2011 £5 Royal Wedding Silver Proof, a complete sell out would be no surprise whatsoever.
